Counselling and Psychotherapy
in Kew and Richmond

My name is Lurdes Hope and I offer Integrative counselling and psychotherapy to adults and university students in the Kew and Richmond areas.
I’m bilingual and I can support you in both English and Portuguese.

Professional Counsellor and Pyschotherapist

I believe that everyone is valuable and we all deserve love and respect. However, sometimes we may doubt ourselves. At certain points in our lives, when there is change or crisis, our minds can become full of negative thoughts from the past and concerns about the future.

Some thoughts and feelings may become too much for one person only. As a counsellor, I’ll work with you to help you to make progress and learn to live in the present moment. This will enable you to manage your feelings and emotions, and shape your future.

Integrative Counselling

You are a unique individual and as we embark on counselling, my approach will be adapted to your needs. I’ve trained in Integrative counselling and psychotherapy, where I learned about many different approaches to therapy. This means that when you come to see me, I can tap into my broad experience and training, and support you in a way that works for you.

A safe space to talk

One of the first things I’ll explain in our counselling sessions is that I won’t judge you. As a counsellor, I bring empathy, sensitivity and kindness to the room as we discuss whatever challenges you may be facing. I’m here to help you explore what’s at the core of your feelings, take charge of your decisions, manage how you feel and become more resilient.

Who is Lurdes Hope?

I grew up in Portugal and moved to the UK in 1993, so I’m fluent in both English and Portuguese, and I know what it’s like to feel like an outsider. I trained to be an interpreter and I was a high achiever, working for organisations such as the Metropolitan Police Service and Her Majesty’s Court Service.

Everything changed when I ruptured a ligament and cartilage in my knee. Following reconstructive surgery I was disabled and suffered with chronic pain.

This taught me what it’s like to live with both emotional and physical pain, how to slow life down, make significant changes in my life and build resilience.

My Training as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist

I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Integrative) and have completed Compassion Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Training at Reading University, an Introductory Transactional Analysis course at the Metanoia Institute and an Introductory Imago Couple Counselling course, amongst other training.

I am an accredited, registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I can offer counselling and psychotherapy sessions in both English and Portuguese, and can understand French.

I am experienced in supporting adults of all ages, whether you are 18 and at university, or over 50 and dealing with issues that can affect all of us in middle age.

I also have a BA and a MA in Languages, Literatures and Translation and Interpreting.
